Liquid co?fluidization of cylinders and spheres

Liquid fluidization of mixtures solid particles spherical and cylindrical shape has been numerically simulated. The simulations explicitly resolve the solid–liquid interfaces by means an immersed boundary method implemented in a lattice-Boltzmann flow solver. A soft collision algorithm deals with particle–particle contacts close-range hydrodynamic interaction. systems studied have overall solids volume fraction 0.40, 5%–35% contained cylinders. One focus study is on effect length over diameter aspect ratio (that varied between 4–10) cylinders co-fluidization behaviour. average slip velocity only weakly depends cylinder particle mixture. do stir system, fluctuation levels increasing if number relative to spheres increased. When co-fluidized, taller preferentially orient vertically, as they also cylinder-only fluidization.
